Mac OS X operating system supports HFS, HFS+, HFS Wrapper and other file system which efficiently manages different files and folders of Mac hard drive. But in case the Mac disk gets corrupt and appears invalid then Mac unables to detect the associated disk and the data stored in the hard drive becomes inaccessible. In this situation undeletion of Mac data need to be done especially when the backup of the inaccessible data is not available to restore.
To understand the complete situation, let’s take the case of an external hard drive which is connected to Mac OS X operating system. The disk is displaying in the ‘Disk Utility’ but it is grayed out. When you try to mount the disk nothing happened and attempt made to try this process again and again throws an error messages which says –
" A disk attempting to mount as Unknown has failed verification or has failed to mount"

Since the external Mac hard disk is not mounting so there is no way out to access the disk and its data. The error mentioned above generally occurs when the disk which you are trying to mount is formatted to an incorrect file system that Mac OS X is unable to recognize due to which the disk has gone corrupt.
In order to resolve this issue you need to make sure that the disk contains a valid file system that Mac OS X should recognize. But if this is not the case then the file system corruption might have occurred. To detect the file system corruption and to repair it, FSCK command needs to be executed. If running FSCK doesn’t makes any difference then reformatting the disk and restoring the backed up data can also resolve the issue. But in most of the cases either backup is not available or available backup gets corrupt as well. So, in this circumstance using any third party software is better thing to do and Undelete Mac File is best for this purpose. This software will effectively scan the external hard drive recover or retrieve all your files and folders in a safe and healthy location, so that data’s can be used later.
Launch Mac data recovery software
Now select volume for recovery of deleted data
Select file type
Now Start Scan
After scanning software recovers all deleted files including trashed one. From here restore files which you want at your specified location.
