How to solve the issue:

The solution of this problem involves three major task that you must need to perform for proper functioning of mail application. The task and involved steps are:

  1. Mail.app should be used only from application folder: If Mail.app is present inside application folder then it is okay. If it is not present there then move it to application folder. While performing this task you may receive an alert message saying that a newer version already exists in application folder. You should not replace the file with existing one. Instead remove earlier version and create new dock or alias icon from newer mail.app that is present in application folder. Still, Mail unexpectedly quits then move to next section.
  2. Delete outdated third party plug-ins: Close mail application if it is open. Go to Go menu from finders> select- Go to folder > Click- ~/Library/Mail/Bundles folder > Delete folder contents. Again from finder's Go menu> select- Go to folder > Go to-/Library/Mail/Bundles > Delete- folder contents. Open mail to see the changes.
  3. Install mail update 1.0: However, you may need to install mail update 1.0 after these changes. For this, run software update. If mail update 1.0 appears after performing the operation then install it. In other situation, installation is not required. Most probably this task will help you to solve Mail unexpectedly quits issue on your system.
