Partition Table Change From APM to GPT Leads to Mac Data Loss !

When Apple Inc. is moving towards the Intel processors from the Power PC, there are bunch of changes made in the way Macintosh works, like PowerPC RISC chip to Intel Core Duo CISC etc. At the same time Apple also provide its user a provision to change their partition table from APM (Apple Partition Map) to GUID Partition Table (GPT). But this changing doesn’t works always as after changing the process the Mac OS may not start due to accidentally deletion of some important files. Due to accidentally deletion the data will become inaccessible and user may face data loss problems. So, in order to avoid this problem Undelete Mac Files software is required.

APM or Apple Partition Map is a great but simple and robust partition structure which is used in Mac hard drives and formatted either in HFS or in HFS+ file system. This partition structure does not contain the boot code rather Open Firmware computer contains the code for reading this structure. So, APM first reads the Open Firmware and then the HFS+ file system and then finally the operating system is booted. Since Open Firmware is compatible only with the HFS file system so it is not compatible with the windows operating system. On the other hand GPT is an advanced partition scheme that works on both Intel and PowerPC computers. So, it is used for both Mac OS X and for Windows operating systems and can store mission critical data’s in the hard drive more safely and securely. It provides greater flexibility or resizing of hard drive partitions and backs up the copy of primary data’s.

Mac OS X 10.3.9, 10.4 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard and supports Snow Leopard
